[[Joseph Alexander is a 28 year old male of British descent. With his disheveled brown hair that he can’t bother to brush and the remnants of a poorly shaved beard on his chin, he’s your typical, average guy. You wake up to the sound of the ocean crashing against the plastic, the sound bothers you, but as tired as you are you realize you can’t fall back asleep. You decide to start work, grabbing a mug and an instant coffee packet and filling your mug up to the brim with hot water. You look at the box of instant coffee packets and see that the box is empty. You get a little concerned and start to think. ‘How can I live here without coffee?’ You start to worry for tomorrow, but decide you’ll be fine. You set a reminder on your phone to let Joseph know we’re running[[ out]].
there is a giant mound of trash sitting toward the western part of the island. Something underneath the trash starts wiggling its way to the surface. bursting from the trash like a geyser spraying bottles cans and other plastics everywhere is a humanoid figure cloaked in giant bulging eye sockets and fluorescent yellow hands. They reach for their eye stocks and … rip them right off their face revealing it's me lily coen your local neighborhood trash collector from crown heights brooklyn.
You may be wondering how I got here. One day I was in the depot getting off my truck after shift and I saw a poster on the wall asking for someone who was knowledgeable about trash to study in the north pacific what was most polluting our oceans. I figured they were sending us to Hawaii and it's between flood seasons so I took the job and never thought the government would send me here though.

You wake up to the beeping of your alarm clock, eyes not yet adjusted to the bright fluorescent lights that automatically turn on. You slowly get up from your bed, groaning as you pull yourself up. I shouldn’t have done that extra hour of training. I feel like crap right now, you think to yourself. You slowly walk to the washroom. Looking at yourself in the mirror, you notice the dark circles under your eyes. It's been months since you got sent to the Module on a mission—protect the two scientists researching ways to eliminate waste without releasing carbon emissions. But from what? Uninhabitable waters surround the trash island-even the government doesn’t know you’re here-so who else would? You do your usual morning routine; brush your teeth, shower, and send a good morning text to your fiance. Before you leave your room, you notice the blinking red light of your two-way radio. Someone sent you a message.
[[Ignore it for now, you need to eat breakfast first]]
[[Pick up the radio and listen to the message]]
While I was island diving I found this piece of plastic that looks singed with melting plastic which isn't uncommon in this kind of heat. In the case of it they primarily use cotton trash bags at home so we don't burn our hands but this looks different. It looks like it's been set on fire. I need to go find Alexander. He (either: "needs to","should") know about this.

I walk all the way to the other side of the island and I see Cyrus standing over a pile of goo. “What's this?” Cyrus responds “It’s Alexanders,” “oof he stinks worse than trash burgs in summer.” “ I came to find him after I needed a clean up for a failed experiment and I found him like this”. “ Wait, Cyrus, what's this?” I bend down and pull Joseph Alexander's radio out of a pile of trash.
Should I [[ending one ]] or [[8a]]
Fine, I take the long trek back to the module. When I get to his room I knock on his door and who could've guessed it's the middle of the day he's not there. (either: [[I walk away and go find him out on the island->3a]], [[I walk in to his room and decide to take a look around->5a]]) You stare at the blinking radio when the rumble of your stomach breaks the silence. You chuckle to yourself, deciding that filling your stomach would be way better than listening to whatever possible message that poor excuse of a captain has for you. You exit your room and head to the dining area. You open the fridge and take a look at what’s inside. You frown at the lack of fresh produce, you’ll have to tell Hexteria to send more food. [[You grab some stuff out of the fridge and place it on the kitchen counter.]] You stop in your tracks, deciding to listen to the message on your radio first. The message was sent at 4:38 am. You pick up the radio and hit play.
“Alex. This is Captain [Name] speaking, you have to leave now. There’s no time left and the people are desperate. The government has finally decided to take matters into their own hands, and we don’t know what they’re planning. Take the scientists with you and leave now. You’re on your own Alexander, Hexteria wishes you the best of luck.”
The radio stops playing, leaving you with thoughts of panic. You check the time on your electric alarm clock-8:40 am-it's been 4 hours since the message was sent, how much time do you have left? Taking a private plane to Hawaii and sailing on a boat to reach the trash island took nearly two days, but you had Hexteria’s help. How were you going to get back on your own? You punch the wall in frustration, overwhelmed by the possibilities of what could happen, of the possibility of never seeing her again.
A [[Take a walk, clear your head and determine the next course of action]]
B [[Go find the others, you’ll need a second opinion on this]]
No, don’t panic, you need to calm down. You look out your bedroom window. Like always, there’s nothing but trash and ocean, but it’s strangely calming now. Maybe a walk would be nice. You grab a gas mask before you leave your room.
You go out of your way to leave the research lab through the side exits. Bumping into Cyrus and Lily and telling them the bad news would make things more difficult. Before you open the door, you put on your gas masks, clipping the straps together and securing them. As you step outside you take a look at your surroundings. Air pollution has turned the sky from a bright blue to a dull orange and it contrasts eerily against the murky blue black waters. You start walking, thinking about what to do next when your thoughts are interrupted by a strange sound...and the distinctive scent of something burning.
You turn towards the direction of where the smell is coming from and you see it...a fuzzy humanoid shape. It’s clear, almost invisible, but you can still make it out somehow. The figure suddenly charges and you instinctively leap to your left, narrowly avoiding whatever attack this invisible attacker had in store for you.
[[You assume a fighting stance and get ready to make your move.]]
No, don’t panic. You need to calm down. You take a few deep breaths. Talking to Lily and Cyrus about this is the best course of action. The three of you are a team and play your perspective roles. If anyone could escape a trash island and overcome whatever the government sent here, it’d be us.
You leave your room and go to find Lily and Cyrus. You have no idea where Lily might be, but knowing Cyrus, she probably was up all night in her research lab working. Her ability to function without proper rest is something you admire.
You head towards the research lab, still lost in thought about the message Hexteria sent you. How were Lily and Cyrus going to react to the news? What if-

You start work, listening to the waves crashing against the pieces of plastic that once woke you up. Your typing on the computer when all of a sudden it crashes. You get up and try to solve the issue, you check the wires, try to reset the computer, even tried to reset the internet but none of your ideas worked. You decide to go talk to Joseph, the maintenance man.
Where do you go look for Joseph?
[[A: His room]]
[[B: Look around the island]]
You head to Joseph’s room, when you get there the door was already open, you walk in weary, calling Joseph’s name. “Hey Joseph! Are you in here?” No response. As you go deeper in the room, you hear a staticy sound coming from somewhere near Joseph’s bed. Under the bed sheets you could hear a “crack”, and a “bzzz”
[[A: Do you investigate further?]]
[[B: Check for Joseph outside?]]
You walk through the empty halls of the lab, you occasionally check rooms looking for one of the other scientists, Lily. You haven't seen her all morning. As you close the door that links you with the outside world you feel an instant chill. The waves are rough, and you see a figure in the distance. You walk slowly trying to keep your balance on the island. As you get closer you can see that the figure is Lily! But next to her is a patch of.. goo?

I looked at the head of the figure, it’s facing it’s direction to cyris, it walks closer and reaches out to touch her, when it does, I see her melt to the ground looking similar to Joseph. the figure reaches out to touch me as well. I feelt like my eys are gonna burst as it touches you. The last thing you see is the sky and you smell burning flesh and see a gaint cloud start to form from the smog that is set to envelop calafornia.

As we sit on the piles of trash thinking of what to do next I feel my discovery from earlier in the day poking me in the back pocket. you bring it up to cyrus and you take it back to the lab to analyze. Cyrus finds that the burn on the plastic comes from a goo-like acid and if it is left to dissolve the entire island I will produce such a big cloud of polluted air that it will make California unlivable. While cyrus Is working I started messing around with the equipment and accidentally knocked the piece of plastic into cyrus’s mess from earlier. When I fished it out the good left on the plastic was crystallized and the burn was healed. We ( mainly cyrus) released it could be used to fight the acid so we set back out onto the Island to find where to attack it.
[[next-> 9a]](set:$breakfast to (prompt: "What should you have for breakfast?", "breakfast"))You prepare yourself a serving of (print: $breakfast) and head to the dining table. Just seconds after you sit down, loud footsteps echo through the hallways. You sign and rub your temples, there’s only one person here this loud early in the morning; [[Lily Cohen.]] “ALEXANDER!!! THERE’S NO FOOD IN THE KITCHEN!”
Well at least she knows how to get to the point.
“Lily, it’s 8 in the morning.”
“I’m well aware of that Alexander. 8 in the morning on a Monday just also happens to be the time our government funded shipments arrive.”
Oh right, you forgot to ask Hexteria for supplies. How did that slip your mind?
“Yeah there seems to be...a delay in the uh shipments, yeah. Delay”
Lily pauses for a second, eyes narrowing.
“Are you really lying to me right now? Making sure the shipments get here on time is YOUR responsibility. I mean, what else do you have to do besides work out and walk around?”
You sigh.
“I’ll go ask them why the supplies aren’t here yet after I finish my breakfast.”
“Oh so you can’t admit that you made a mistake? Can’t even apologize?”
“Lily, I don't need to hear this from you.“
“From me? What’s that supposed to mean huh? You’re the one that neglected your responsibilities, and all of a sudden I’M the bad guy?”
“You know that’s not what I meant. You’re blowing this out of proportion.”
And with that you leave. You can still hear Lily’s angry rambling, but you can’t deal with that right now. You’ve never been one to be calm and collected in arguments, often resorting to well...rather physical solutions.
[[You need to clear your head. A walk would be nice.]]As you step outside you take a look at your surroundings. Air pollution has turned the sky from a bright blue to a dull orange and it contrasts eerily against the murky blue black waters. You cough, the smoke in the air filling your lungs. You should have gone to your room to grab your gas mask, oh well. You turn on your walkie talkie and leave a message for Hexteria.
“Hexteria. This is Alexander. The Module requests another shipment of supplies. Over.”
You send the message, reaching to put the walkie talkie back in your pocket when you hear a strange sound...and the distinctive scent of something burning.
[[You assume a fighting stance and get ready to make your move.]](set: $attack to (prompt: "How do you attack the invisible man?", "attack")) You step forward and (print: $attack), but it seems to have no effect against the figure, maybe you missed? No, you definitely hit it. The ache you’re feeling right now is proof that you made contact. Wait. Ache?
A searing pain suddenly shoots through your body, it feels like your veins are on fire. You groan, clench your teeth and quickly compose yourself. Turning your attention to the human figure you prepare to throw another attack. As you take a deep breath, that same searing pain shoots through your throat to your chest. You gasp, but no air comes when you inhale. You’re really panicking now, desperately trying to will yourself to move but you just can't and with every breath and beat of your heart your chest stings and your eyes are having trouble seeing the man in front of you. You fall to your knees, legs and arms seizing as they jerk away from you. The figure walks towards you, trash burning under their feet. Is that what's happening to you? Are you burning from the inside out? No. No no no. Not here, no please. Not now. I still have to-she’s waiting-home-I have to- no I need. The figure stops in front of you, and nothing hurts anymore.
You walk up to Lily and ask her “What is that?” “I think it’s Alexanders, he looks nastier than trash pick up on Tuesday morning,” Lily says with a snarky attitude. Next to the goo was a walkie talkie, somedays you’d see Joseph walking around with it. And at that moment the walkie-talkie went off. “I repeat, no more food, boats, and packages are coming to the island. You on your own Joseph.” “Huh? What do they mean no more food?” You say. You look at Lily and say “They're not planning to leave us hear right?” Lily replies and says, “That’s exactly what they mean, we’re stuck here.” “You knew?” You said. “I knew,” Lily replies. Your brain slowly processes what Lily has said before. “Wait what do you mean that’s Alexanders?” You ask confused and a little terrified. You study the goo, it looks like a melted version of flesh and bones. “Wait... Don’t tell me..” You say. “Yeah, it’s him,” Lily says blatantly. You both stare at the goo wondering what happened to Alexanders—forgetting the other rash information you both just discovered.

And at that moment the walkie-talkie went off once again. “I repeat, no more food, boats, and packages are coming to the island. You on your own Joseph.” You look at Lily's face to see her reaction. “Hey, you okay there?”
“Yeah, don’t worry about it.”
“Okay, that’s good. Uh, Cyrus?”

“I need to uh, tell you something. Something really important.”
“I need to tell you something too.”
“Oh uh you can—you can go first then.”
Man, you’ve never been good with words have you?
“My computer crashed when I was doing research. I tried resetting both the internet and my computer after I checked that the wires were fine, but it didn’t work. I also ran out of instant coffee, I won’t be able to work properly without it.”
The computers are down? But they were fine yesterday. Did the government do this? No, they don’t know were here, so how-
“Alexander?”
You snap out of your thoughts.
“Oh uh sorry. I have a lot on my mind right now. It’s kinda overwhelming”.
“Hey it's okay, take your time, you said you had something to tell me right?”
You relax, Cyrus has a way of doing that to people.
“Okay. This is going to be a lot, and I’ll answer all questions. Just listen first, okay?”
[[Cyrus nods.]]
As you and Lily become aware of the corruption within Hexteria, the memory of Joseph's death slips from your mind. As you look off into the distance a jarring sound interrupts your thoughts - the screeching of nails on a chalkboard. As you check your surroundings you become aware you and Lily are no longer the only ones here anymore. You alert Lily and think ‘I guess I’m dying today.’ You see the shape of a figure hiding behind the wall of the lab, you look at it in wonder. “What is that?” Lily says. “You could say that again,” you say.
