That’s a wrap for our Summer Camp participants! In just four weeks, participants have created a portfolio of multimedia projects, gained access to a network of STEM and art professionals, and strengthened their confidence in STEM, art, and writing. As they consider the opportunities their new skills unlock, our Summer Institute participants continue journeying into new worlds.

My main takeaway from the Octavia Project is the friendly environment and how you’re able to talk to everyone without being embarrassed…You learn that if you meet someone who is rude to you, that doesn’t mean you should lose faith in humanity or believe everyone is going to hate you for being weird. You’re not weird, you’re unique.

This past week participants learned about Sound Healing and Drag. They discovered that the soundtrack of their neighborhood has healing powers, and what many see as entertainment is actually a creative method of resistance, resilience, and storytelling. These experiences allow them to carry themselves with a fresh perspective on the world.

At the Octavia Project, we’re not just teaching new skills; we’re sparking a sense of wonder and offering participants a fresh way to experience their community.
