2024 was a momentous year for the Octavia Project. We marked 10 years of free summer programming in Brooklyn, ran our first after-school program, and continued growing our reach.
All that we achieved this year, and over the past decade, is thanks to you, our incredible community. From our participants to our supporters, teachers, and volunteers, thank you for making the past 10 years possible!
It’s hard to capture everything that happened this year, but here’s a rundown of some of our favorite moments:
- Gathering together in November to celebrate Octavia Project turning 10 years old!
- Running our first ever after-school workshop series, which focused on architecture and community care. Hosted in partnership with Architecture + Advocacy, the program culminated in participants designing and building a bench for the Greene Garden community!
- Completing our 10th summer of free programming for teens and tweens in Brooklyn—which you can read all about on our blog—and hosting our 10th annual Summer Showcase at the Center for Art, Research & Alliances.
- Publishing volume 5 of our digital zine, Positive Obsessions, featuring Institute participants’ games, poetry, artwork, and more.
- Hosting our second Community Chat, featuring Institute alums Eden, Yuni, and Kiley.
We also want to give thanks to our outgoing Program Manager, Ananya Garg. Ananya has made a lasting impact on our community, organization, and programs through her creativity, leadership, and passion for community building. Thank you, Ananya!
Wishing you and your loved ones a happy and restful holiday season. We look forward to sharing more updates in the new year!
